Michel Rolland is a legend in the wine world. As a consultant, he regularly works with world famous châteaux like Angélus, Ausone and Giscours, the wines of which will cost you more than a few bob!.
Back in 1986, Michel and wife Dany bought Château Fontenil in sleepy Fronsac on the Right Bank of the Gironde. They planned to have it just as their home, but couldn’t resist and, over 13 years, renovated the estate from the roots up. It’s a top spot (highest in Fronsac) in the heart of Merlot country, where a slightly cooler climate plus clay and limestone soils produce wines with depth and freshness.
The vines are around 45 years old, so flavour is intense.
Glorious aromas of cassis, dark plum and damson. Soft and rounded mouthfeel, with integrated tannins
We would definitely insist on decanting this wine for an hour plus before drinking and further ageing is not a problem here.
